Mary Slocum

Mary Slocum won the last Artquake award for Poetry and was a shipyard electrician for 17 years, resulting in her working class voice.  She published a great deal from 1988 to 2000 and has been on hiatus brought on by grad school.  Now a semi-retired, crazy dog lady in beautiful downtown Gaston, Oregon, she has returned to public readings with social work and political commentary.

Carla Perry is the founder of the nonprofit Writers On The Edge and the Nye Beach Writers’ Series, now in its 12th year; 300 authors have been featured thus far.

For her “outstanding contributions to Oregon’s literary life,” Perry received the Stewart Holbrook Special Award at the Oregon Book Awards, an Oregon State Governor’s Art Award, and numerous literary fellowships and residencies.  She also was awarded an Oregon Literary Arts Fellowship in Fiction, and a Career Opportunity Grant from the Oregon Arts Commission. She is a graduate of the University of Iowa Writers Workshop with a BA in Creative Writing/Poetry.  Her poetry, essays, interviews, and short stories have been published widely.  Her photos of people, mostly writers, have won awards and been used in numerous publications.  She is the owner of Dancing Moon Press.

Leanne Grabel

Leanne Grabel is a poet, spoken word performer and illustrator who teaches Language Arts and Creative Writing throughout the tri-county area, most currently at Rosemont Rehabilitation Center and School and Marshall High School.  She is also the co-founder of the legendary Cafe Lena open mic.
